The New Neutrals: a How To

Taupe, blush, gray, and classic beige… Many of our clients are asking how to incorporate these shades into their space. We’ll tell you how to do it most effectively.

1.  Beautiful Blush

Different shades of pale and delicate pink have numerous advantages:  for example, they do not tire the eyes and they create a special atmosphere of elegance and even intimacy. Ruddy pink goes well with cream and yellow shades, serving as a magnificent backdrop for other neutral colors. Using pale pink as the main source of color allows you to add more bright accents: for example, an area rug or bold decorative pillows.

2. Exquisite silver

Different shades of silver are often seen in fresh and elegant design. The uniqueness of the color is that it changes throughout the day, depending on the lighting. Some ways to begin adding silver to your space are via door and cabinet hardware, curtain hardware, and art or mirrors frames.  In the bedroom this color also has a calming effect: silver wallpaper creates a calm and sophisticated atmosphere. The skillful layering of neutral colors will add comfort and harmony.

3. Calming pale blue

A gray-blue palette is ideal for bedrooms or living rooms with lots of natural light. These shades are often combined with darker colors (brown, dark metallics) to create contrast and dimension. If this option seem boring to you, play with texture. The trick is to create diversity.  Don’t be afraid to try different options like suede, raw linen, wool, and cashmere. Also, we encourage you to combine metals: nickel, for example, looks fresh and modern, while brass has a more traditional look. However, when your main color is a calming pale blue, these metals can be easily combined to add character.

 4. The original lavender

The purple/gray combination is one of the hallmarks of the recent neutrals craze. Lavender is an unexpected shade for a living room, home office, or kitchen. It brings romance,  tranquility, and courage into the space.  Depending on your needs, combine it with natural materials and various shades of green, silver or pink. A room decorated in shades of lavender is gentle on the eyes and interesting to the brain.
